BY POPULAR DEMAND, THE COMPETITION.

This month's suggestion has come from Gilgamesh - Leekspin, also known as ievan polka, performed by the group loituma. ITS NOT A TUMA.

I'll be interested to see if anyone attempts a cover.

Here's a quick one I did. Here.

hooray!

this is a great bit of a capella vocal but the timing is way off and it's not quite in tune when you add other instruments to it. If I get the chance I'll post a version of it tuned up a bit to D minor.

Oh, I love a good polka, me.
This tramples a bit on copyright, but hey..
There's lyrics and a translation on this site.

Also a wikipedia entry on the song and later animation.

'Tis a right salty little tune. Arrrr.

Here's the inevitable techno version from me!
Just needs some guys going, "Hey! hey! hey! hey!".
I found the melody at nordicjam.org.

I'd love to hear a version of the song in the style or Laibach, or Rammstein.. better yet, dub-reggae.

Nice one!

I don't think copyright is a real issue, given that no one here is making money, or pretending that the original is their own work.

Hopefully we aren't eroding Loituma's brand here.

If it's an issue for people, I'll email them about it, but like I said, no-one here is making any money. I'd be surprised if we're costing them any, too.

I HAVE SPENT TOO MUCH TIME TYPING THIS.

I started pitch-correcting the original tune ... then I tought maybe I'll just add a few guitars over that ... and it all just got a bit out of hand very quickly.

Heh - I could go through the song and fix up all the timing, I'm better with that than pitch...

It'll probably be a week or two before I have the time to sit down and to it properly, though.

Nice work, Gilgamesh!
Very Iron Maiden..

I was thinking last week, another tune that's ripe for the mashing with this one, is the 60s hit, "Donald, Where's Yer Troosers?"

HOOTS.
